Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.
My thoughts: It’s beautiful. Not just visually, but the narrative is beautiful as well. It’s great how a 6 minutes video can have more emotion than some shows out there and their entire run time. It has little dialogue, but the little dialogue makes the experience better. The music as well creates the atmosphere of what this anime short is all about. Even at the end where it gets all sad and some will get out the tissues and start crying their eyes out, it still ends on a positive note. This was most definitely a passion project coming from a musician who had an idea and stick with it till the very end. He lived out the dream that many anime fans wanted, that I wanted, and all I have to say is-good for him.
